Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, suffering from severe depression, cuts off the lower part of his left ear with a razor while staying in Arles, France.

The paintings were discovered on the back seat of a car which had been abandoned outside a psychiatric hospital in Zurich. The pictures by Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet are thought to be worth in excess of sixty million dollars.
