A week after fierce fighting with Taliban insurgents killed 10 of their comrades in Afghanistan, French troops are once again patrolling the streets.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan A Canadian television journalist who was abducted last month near a refugee camp in Afghanistan has been freed after 28 days in captivity, and is healthy and in good spirits, officials with the CBC said Saturday. Mellissa Fung was abducted Oct. 12 while she was researching a story about refugees near the Afghan capital of Kabul, said CBC News publisher John Cruickshank.

Kabul, August 22 ANI : Afghanistan won its first Olympic medal, when Rohullah Nikpai defeated world champion Juan Antonio Ramos of Spain to take the bronze in the men's under 58 kilogram Taekwondo competition. Nikpai's family was delighted on Rohullahs win.
